Guide to Black Desert Yuria Shortsword of the Crimson Flame: Stats, Builds & Tips

If you’ve spent any time grinding mid-game content in Black Desert, you’ve probably stumbled across dozens of generic Yuria weapons lying around your inventory or listed for cheap on the central market. Most players write them off as throwaway gear to use until they can afford boss weapons, but the Black Desert Yuria Shortsword of the Crimson Flame is a huge exception to that rule. I picked mine up on my Musa main a few years back when I was stuck between hitting level 56 and saving up for my first Kzarka, and it carried me through way more content than I ever expected. This guide breaks down everything you need to know to get the most out of this surprisingly powerful weapon, no endgame gear required.

How to Get the Black Desert Yuria Shortsword of the Crimson Flame

You have two main paths to get this weapon, and the right choice for you depends on how much time you want to spend grinding vs how much silver you have to spare. The first option is to craft it yourself at the level 3 weapon workshop in Calpheon City. You’ll need 25 Yuria weapon fragments, 10 Crimson Flame embers, 5 pure iron crystals, and 2 regular black stone (weapon) to complete the craft. The whole process takes 2 hours of in-game workshop time, so you can do other content while you wait for it to finish.

The second option is to farm it directly from Crimson Flame Rift bosses that spawn in Mediah territory. The drop rate sits at roughly 12% per rift clear, so you might get lucky and get it on your first run, or you could spend an entire weekend grinding without a drop. I tried this route first and went 8 runs without seeing it, so I eventually just bought all the crafting materials for 11 million silver off the central market, which was way less frustrating.

If you’re a new player with more time than silver, farming the rifts is a solid choice because you’ll also get extra loot like ancient spirit dust and accessory drops along the way. Just don’t burn yourself out if you don’t get the drop quickly; the crafting route is always there as a backup.

Core Stats and Perks You Need to Know

At base +15 enhancement, this weapon has 179 AP, 12 accuracy, 7% critical hit damage, and 5% extra PvP damage, which already puts it way ahead of the standard +15 Yuria shortsword that only has 162 AP and no PvP bonus. The real standout feature, though, is the unique Crimson Burn perk that no other mid-game shortsword has.

Crimson Burn triggers on every third hit you land, applying a 5-second damage over time effect that deals 3% of your total AP as extra fire damage every second. The effect stacks up to 3 times, so if you’re landing fast hits nonstop, you can get up to 9% extra AP as DoT running at all times. I tested this on Elvia Orc Camp mobs and found that the DoT made up nearly 18% of my total damage output during a 30-minute grind session.

This weapon also has 2 extra crystal slots compared to the base Yuria, which lets you add even more stat boosts early on when you don’t have access to boss gear with extra slots. Most players slot either precision crystals for extra accuracy or critical hit crystals to bump their crit rate up to 40%+ without sacrificing AP. It also has a hidden 5% damage boost against human-type mobs, which makes it perfect for grinding bandit camps or Calpheon Shrine spots that are popular for mid-game leveling.

Best Classes and Builds to Pair With This Weapon

This weapon isn’t a good fit for every class, but for fast, combo-heavy classes that land lots of hits quickly, it’s easily the best mid-game weapon you can get for the price. The classes that get the most value out of it are:

  • Musa/Maehwa: Their chainable, high-speed combos trigger the Crimson Burn perk almost constantly, letting you melt PvE packs 15% faster than with a regular +15 Yuria. The extra PvP damage also makes them deadly in open world duels against other mid-game players.
  • Ninja/Kunoichi: These classes struggle with low accuracy early on, and the 12 base accuracy on this weapon fixes that issue entirely. You’ll be able to hit dodge-heavy classes in PvP and high-evasion Elvia mobs without having to stack extra accuracy on your armor.
  • Striker/Mystic: Their high base AP pairs perfectly with the Crimson Burn DoT, letting you clear Elvia server spots at level 58 much earlier than most other players. The extra PvP damage also makes them a force to be reckoned with in small-scale guild fights.

You don’t want to waste your silver on this weapon if you main a slow-hitting class like Berserker, Guardian, or Sage. Their longer attack cooldowns mean you won’t trigger the Crimson Burn often enough to justify the extra cost over a regular Yuria weapon. For these classes, you’re better off saving your silver for a boss weapon directly.

If you’re running a full AP glass cannon build, you can slot two elixir of fury crystals in the extra slots to get an extra 8 AP and 4% crit damage, which makes this weapon almost as strong as a PRI Kzarka for less than a quarter of the cost. I ran this setup for 2 months and was able to keep up with guildmates who already had PRI boss weapons during grind sessions.

Upgrade Tips to Maximize Its Value

First off, don’t waste your time enhancing this weapon past +18 unless you plan to use it for at least 3 months before upgrading to boss gear. The repair cost for enhancements above +18 gets really expensive, and you’ll end up spending more silver on repairs than you would saving up for a base Kzarka. Stick to +15 to +18 for the best return on investment.

Use regular black stone (weapon) for enhancements from +0 to +15, and save your concentrated black stones for +16 to +18. The success rate for +15 to +18 is around 30% per attempt, so you won’t need too many concentrated stones to hit your goal. Don’t use cron stones on these enhancements, either; the success rate is high enough that you won’t need to protect against downgrades, and cron stones are better saved for boss gear enhancements later on.

If you have extra Caphras stones lying around, level the weapon up to Caphras level 4 to get an extra 5 AP and 3 accuracy. That pushes its stats almost equal to a DUO Kzarka, and you can extract 90% of the Caphras stones back when you eventually upgrade to boss gear, so you don’t lose your investment. I did this with mine, and it made a huge difference in my clear speed at Elvia Narcissist spots.

When you finally do upgrade to boss gear, don’t just throw this weapon away or sell it for pennies on the central market. Use a weapon durability extractor to get back 80% of the black stones you used to enhance it, and extract any crystals you slotted in it. I did this when I got my TET Kzarka, and I got back nearly 8 million silver worth of materials, which covered almost the entire cost of the original craft.

At the end of the day, the Black Desert Yuria Shortsword of the Crimson Flame is one of the best mid-game investments you can make if you play a fast, combo-heavy class. It’s cheap to get, easy to upgrade, and performs far better than its price tag would suggest. You don’t have to sink hundreds of millions of silver into boss gear right away to have fun clearing content or winning small PvP fights, and this weapon is proof of that. If you haven’t picked one up yet, grab the materials this week and test it out – you might be shocked at how much of a difference it makes for your build.
